JB HUDSON PARTNERS WITH MARTIN PATRICK 3 FOR TWIN CITIES LUXURY SHOPPERS | JOHN EWOLDT

"Greg Walsh, co-owner of Martin Patrick, said he brought in JB Hudson because a lot of clients have asked for better watches. “You have to be a real expert in that, and we didn’t want to take that on ourselves,” he said. It was also a way to satisfy men who were continually asking for a gift for their wives. “We used to have to say, ‘But we’re a men’s store. Maybe a vase or picture frame?’ Now we can talk about precious stones too,” Walsh said.”

THE MODERN DEPARTMENT STORE | JAYNE HAUGEN OLSON

"What began as a small room of handsome gifts and goods (many with a cheeky wink), within the studio of Greg Walsh Interior Desing in the mid-’90s, has carefully (and masterfully) evolved into a full-fledged department store.”

EDITOR’S NOTE | ALLISON KAPLAN

"Colonial Warehouse[…]which is now home to the crown jewel of independent retail, MartinPatrick 3. […] Having covered retail in this town for many years, I don’t need to count articles to tell you that MartinPatrick 3 makes news almost as often as Mall of America does. […] You don’t need to be a shopper to appreciate the immersive experience Greg Walsh and his team have created[.]”

MARTY’S BARBER SHOP | ALLISON KAPLAN

"Business has been so brisk that MartinPatrick 3 recently expanded Marty’s from two to give chairs and moved it from the front to the back of the 22,000-square-foot store. Because Walsh is an interior designer, he pored over every detail: a custom mosaic floor, wallpaper from Andrew Martin in London, classic hanging globe fixtures at each station, and of course, the Cadillac of barbershop chairs.”

JB HUDSON OPENS STORE WITHIN MARTINPATRICK 3 | ERIC BEST

“The high-end jeweler, a Nicollet Mall establishment dating back to 1885, opened a store-within-a-store inside MartinPatrick3 called the Loupe. Rather than a pop-up concept, the jeweler says the miniature store will be a long-term partnership with the luxury menswear boutique meant to ‘connect with a new downtown client.’”

VETERAN NICOLLET MALL JEWELER JB HUDSON WILL OPEN A SECOND STORE WITHIN MARTINPATRICK 3 | ALLSION KAPLAN

"JB Hudson has had its eye on the North Loop’s meteoric rise in popularity as a hub for unique, high-style shopping, and even raised a billboard there to try to connect with a younger audience. When MartinPatrick 3 owners Greg Walsh and Dana Swindler approached JB Hudson with the idea of coming on board as part of an expansion, Pechman says it seemed meant to be."

"“It is not only the best draw the neighborhood has, it is one of the best men’s stores in the country,” he said. “The area has since attracted a number of fantastic local men’s, women’s and home stores.” Some Millennials are drawn to the North Loop, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, but there are loads of older residents there too, says Kroll. “The vibe is definitely more high-end than Uptown, which has a retail mix that caters more to Millennials,” he said."

HOW MINNEAPOLIS IS INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF DOWNTOWN SHOPPING | LISA ROUNDS

“There are no mall stores or nationals in the North Loop,” says Greg Walsh, co-owner of MartinPatrick 3. “There are brands and experiences you don’t find at the shopping meccas.” Walsh should know; he’s created a retail experience that draws customers from all over the metro by bringing in brands they can’t find anywhere else. Specializing in menswear, home furnishings, and interior design, MartinPatrick 3 is expanding its space to 22,000 square feet by August in order to host more of its popular events, like runway shows, speakers, and social gatherings. It’s fair to say it’s become a shopping destination.

“For the overall design, we started with the fabric choices and built everything else around that,” [Hull] says. “We also waited until the rooms were completely furnished before determining art selection and placement. It allowed us to get a feel for what was right—color- and size-wise—for each space.”

NORTH LOOP MEN'S SHOP MARTINPATRICK3 PLANNING ANOTHER EXPANSION | JAHNA PELOQUIN

"Later this summer, the store will expand once again. The retailer is in the process of building out an additional 4,000 square feet of space, which will include a bigger barbershop, a VIP fitting lounge and a larger tailor shop. They’ll knock down a wall and retool other spaces for more retail. At a whopping 22,000 square feet, the store will have expanded as far as the building’s footprint will allow — something that’s become a running joke among Walsh and his staff."

"JW,WY? is joined by Greg Walsh (president and founder), Erick DeLeon (buyer and brand manager), and Hoss Al-Gassid (store manager) of men's lifestyle shop MartinPatrick 3. A staple of the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis, MP3 is an experiential retail destination that has guys covered from "sectionals to socks," as founder Greg Walsh says. The trio talks about the founding of the store (originally envisioned as an interior-design concept), being brick-and-mortar only in an increasingly digital retail environment, their vision for growth and their merchandising strategy, and the passion they bring for educating guys on fashion and watching them grow into their own style."

THE MANUAL AWARDS 2018: MINNEAPOLIS, MN | SAM SLAUGHTER

"Classic, yet contemporary, Martin Patrick 3 is the epitome of a Manual shop. Founded as an interior design company in 1994, this Inner Loop store now creates sophisticated and elegant interiors, but also sells home furnishings and damn good menswear to boot (outside of food and drink, this place is a one-stop-shop for all the things we love). Beyond menswear, Martin Patrick 3 also offers up accessories, apothecary goods, and more. This should be your first stop before a night out on the town in Minneapolis. You might also want to make it your last stop before leaving, too."

"Men’s lifestyle retailer, Martin Patrick 3, which creatively combines home furnishings, men’s apparel and interior design studio in one giant warehouse space, is arguably the hottest retailer in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Twin Cities, which is arguably the hottest place for innovative new retail concepts.

Besides having a great eye for merchandise to appeal to its core men’s market with a selection of good-better-best offerings, Walsh and team ground the Martin Patrick 3 shopping experience with a sophisticated design sensibility. “We look at everything with a design eye,” Walsh notes. “Design touches every category in the store and how we present merchandise and the visuals in the store. A great part of our success is the interior design aspect that we have behind us."

CAN ANYONE BEAT AMAZON? FAST COMPANY HEADS TO MINNESOTA TO FIND OUT | NANCY KUEHN

"The story isn't just about big retail: North Loop boutique MartinPatrick3 gets plenty of praise, with the story noting how the boutique has grown from a small shop in 2008 to a "17,000-square-foot cathedral of high-fashion menswear" that still manages to continually find room for more expansions. (It's almost out of room, though; the Star Tribune notes that a 4,000-square-foot addition planned for next year will max out the space in its building.)"

FAST COMPANY MAGAZINE LOOKS TO THE FUTURE OF RETAIL. IT'S IN MINNEAPOLIS | JOHN EWOLDT

"[Walsh's] store, which he co-owns with his "partner partner" Dana Swindler, continues to enjoy phenomenal sales year over year. While the number of people visiting stores nationally on Thanksgiving and Black Friday fell 4% this year, according to RetailNext Inc., Walsh said, "We projected and set a sales goal for 30% growth over last year, and we did it for each of the three days of the holiday shopping weekend," he said in an email. That's on track with growth of 30 to 40% for each of the last five years at MP3."

THESE BUSINESSES ARE WHY MINNEAPOLIS’S NORTH LOOP IS AMAZING | BECKI IVERSON

"MartinPatrick3 is a legendary cornerstone of the North Loop, and for good reason. Long (as in decades long) before the Dayton Brothers set up shop in the North Loop, MartinPatrick3 was serving up the classiest, chicest men's store around -- but it wasn’t in the center of it all when it opened.

The front half of the store is replete with drool-worthy home goods arranged in approachable vignettes that invite customers to sit down and handle the items, truly making the purchasing process hands-on. The rest of the store’s high-end wares are stocked in a similar fashion, with elegantly designed displays that help you instantly imagine the objects in your own home."

THE FUTURE OF RETAIL IN THE AGE OF AMAZON | AUSTIN CARR

"During my reporting, I quizzed each person I spoke with about which stores get retail right. People picked one place more than any other: MartinPatrick3.

An extravagant, 17,000-square-foot cathedral of high-fashion menswear in Minneapolis, MartinPatrick3 looks like what would have happened if Willy Wonka had gone to Parsons School of Design. At once boundless and intimate, the store’s colorful rooms naturally transition to the next, each its own pristinely wrapped Christmas present."

BEST OF THE TWIN CITIES: BEST CLOTHING STORE (MEN'S)

"When it opened, Martin Patrick3 was merely an interior design shop. That helps explain how gorgeous and well-designed everything is inside it. Part of the joy of shopping at Martin Patrick3 is just making your way through its labyrinthine layout. But these days, much of that glorious North Loop space is devoted to designer threads, with local and national brands represented. Those can run pretty steep, but they don’t have to. Martin Patrick3 maintains a healthy amount of affordable pieces, and their sale section is loaded with finds. Even cheaper than that: While wandering the racks, look for trays of free snacks set out for shoppers. They also carry an excellent selection of men’s fragrances.
